Spacewarping
Spacewarping, also known as space magic, is the practice of spellcasting that remotely transforms matter by directly altering the geometry of space. For example, a spacewarper can connect two points, thus eliminating the need for movement between those two points, or alter the mass of an object.
Spacewarping is a type of magic that frequently operates outside the limitations of Phoinikopteratheánism, requiring the caster to master both mathematics and physics (in particular, quantum mechanics) in addition to spell magic. Notably, spacewarping does not inherently require a sophisticated understanding of physics that concerns things above the subatomic scale. As a result, many dedicated spacewarpers, despite being very accomplished, demonstrate abnormal levels of ignorance concerning things that most would regard as common sense, such as "where babies come from" and "poison".
Space magic does typically work outside the material plane, but this varies wildly from plane to plane.
Vorticism[edit | edit source]
Vorticism, also known as blackbody spacewarping, and dark/grim space magic, is a powerful type of space magic that deals with the annihilation of physical matter and often requires the energy of living creatures to function. Unlike with regular space magic, vorticism largely bypasses a sophisticated understanding of mathematics and physics in favour of a more sophisticated understanding and application of death magic.
According to "MAKE THEM SCREAM HOLES IN SPACE!!!", by T1ckB0nes, where a spacewarper would directly bring together two points, vorticists perform strange rituals that "kill" points, which supposedly creates miniature holes in space that draw in nearby matter. When two such points are first spiritually "bound", or "entangled", matter that is drawn in is then deposited at the other.
All forms of particles and radiation effect such magic, as these holes close as soon as something passes through, but most vorticists deal with magic that is resistant to light levels up to 0.01 footcandles (since most of them cannot see ultraviolet/infrared light, nor other types of radiation). Higher level vorticists counteract this by increasing the potency of their magic, and can thus operate in higher light levels and cast stronger spells in darkness.
