Warp dragon
Warp dragons are a material dragon family that are able to breath negative-energy flames that "burn" wormholes in space known as "wyrmholes". These flames, which are speculated to be the result of a super-mutation, give off a special form of phlogiston that is extremely valuable to practioners of blackbody spacewarping. The dragons themselves are massive, adults measuring on average around two kilometres, including their tails, and their great wyrms reach more than a thousand kilometres. They lack wings, "swimming" through space, and can achieve speeds of millions of kilometres an hour, space warping and shifting around them as they go. Their absolute black scales are both entirely nonreflective and extremely durable, and are highly prized, especially as plating for ships geared for interstellar travel, though the corpses of warp dragons are almost impossible to come by due to the rarity, power and speed of the dragons. They feed upon space whales and, when possible, stellar dragons, the latter of whose flesh a warp dragon will go to great lengths to acquire (though they rarely cross paths naturally). Though they feed infrequently, larger warp dragons will feast upon entire pods or even entire populations of space whales. They are also known to feed upon extradimensionally "rich" foods, including powerful planar creatures such as angels and even, it is rumoured, demigoddesses.
Like many dragons, they are worshipped as deities by some. In some cases, warp dragons have ascended to goddesshood, though these goddesses are mysterious and poorly documented.
Wyrmholes[edit | edit source]
Wyrmholes interconnect to form a network across space, which sometimes encompass thousands of star systems. Spaceships capable of "jump travel" can use these wyrmholes to travel huge distances in this way as if they were interstellar-capable. Systems located on a network of wyrmholes are known as "wyrmlinked" and often contain interstellar civilisations that utilize and sometimes control entry via the wyrmholes.
