The myconic megameteorite is a sapient, radioactive fungus ball the size of a large building that crashed into Turly. Not technically a meteorite at all, it rapidly ejected an estimated 100 trillion spores into the air, which blew around the world and spread out in a radius of almost a quarter of the planet’s circumference. When the spores contacted living creatures, they burrowed into them and began taking them over as hosts. A few days later, huge pits began opening up in the ground, within which fungal cities began to grow. Many hosts of the spores died and became myconids, which made their way to the fungal pits never to be heard from again.

A few of the individuals exposed to the radiation emitting from the megameteorite and/or elements of the meteorite, including the spores, underwent spontaneous mutations and became "superpowered", gaining powers far beyond that of ordinary people. This phenomena continues to be explored and exploited by various individuals across the planet.
